Kyle MacLachlan’s Goofy Post Reveals He Was Almost in DRACULA Eric Diaz | usagoldmines.com

Kyle MacLachlan has evolved from beloved actor into the internet’s lovable and nerdy dad. As if being the star of Dune, Twin Peaks, Portlandia, Inside Out, and Fallout wasn’t enough to make him nerd royalty, he’s used social media to embrace his dorky side in the most adorable way. And just in time for Halloween, he’s posted a video that revealed something about his career that perhaps no one knew. It turns out, Kyle MacLachlan almost had a big role in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, but he lost it to Keanu Reeves. You can watch the delightfully goofy reel right here:

In the video, Kyle puts on a goofy wig, makeup, fangs, and a red cape, trying to emulate Gary Oldman’s Vlad as cheaply as humanly possible. He even rises from a coffin while holding a candle. He says, “There are certain moments in life you never forget. Working with Francis Ford Coppola is one of them. He had this way of creating an atmosphere where you completely lost yourself in the character. I remember stepping onto that set and thinking, ‘I am him….I was Dracula!” Then the gag comes in, and an off-camera voice reminds him he wasn’t even in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. He only auditioned for it. And not even for the Dracula role. He tested for the part that Keanu Reeves would play, Jonathan Harker.

Nerdist’s Take: Sorry, Keanu, But Kyle MacLachlan Would Have Been a Better Jonathan Harker

This reel was basically a funny promotion for MacLachlan’s memoir Fictional Selves, which just came out. In it, he recounts many stories of his long career, including big roles he lost. We are actually big fans of Francis Ford Coppola’s sexy and lush 1992 retelling of Dracula here at Nerdist. But even those of us who love the film know it has one glaring weak spot, and it’s poor Keanu. Look, we all love him, but his attempt at a British accent was, let’s just say, rather unfortunate. We think Kyle MacLachlan would have been amazing as Harker. But Keanu was close friends with Winona Ryder, so that likely helped him land the role. As for MacLachlan, a couple of years later, he’d land another iconic horror film, Showgirls. And if you’ve never seen it, trust us, it’s very scary. Just not on purpose.
