Louisiana ID Firm Breached, Exposing 153 Million Driver’s Licenses: Report Daily Hodl Agent | usagoldmines.com

A Louisiana identity-check company is facing an FBI probe after more than 153 million U.S. and Canadian driver’s licenses showed up for sale on the dark web.

A service called Nexus briefly sold scans of those licenses and other IDs, in a leak traced to a suspected breach at IDScan.net, reports KrebsOnSecurity.

Nexus was advertised on the Russian cybercrime forum Exploit. The sellers claimed they had been pulling data for more than a year. The listings included front and back scans with infrared and ultraviolet images and timestamps that lined up with visits to clients such as Hertz and Planet13 dispensaries. People who checked the records say they match those trips.

IDScan.net processes more than 21 million checks a month for businesses that scan IDs, including Target, FedEx and Caesars Entertainment. It has not confirmed a breach. It says it is investigating.

Says Jillian Kossman, a marketing and operations leader at the company,

“At this point I’m not able to share any additional information but the updates you have provided have been welcome and helpful to our team’s investigation.”

The FBI’s New Orleans field office has opened an inquiry into the apparent breach. Nexus went offline after the reporting and posted a note that it was no longer available.
