Greetings Trekkies! I’d say “hello” in Klingon, but the closest translation is roughly “What do you want!?” in English. Well, I know what I want, and it’s for November 13th to get here faster, because the new Star Trek Universes Beyond set for Magic: The Gathering continues to delight and intrigue me. Whether you’re a Magic: The Gathering fan excited to terrorize your Friday Night Magic buddies with the new mono-blue meta, or just looking to collect Booster Packs until you hit one of the 250 authentic autographed headliner cards, this set definitely has something for everyone.

The art in this set is out of this world (haha), whether it’s the standard cards or the menagerie of unique art and rare cards you can find within a Collector Booster or Collector’s Edition Commander deck. Above, you can see the old-school Trek aesthetic cards, which are some of my favorites. And don’t worry—there are multiple iterations of the most iconic characters. I think I’ve seen already seen three Spocks, and I’m not complaining.
As any Star Trek set would have, there are plenty of ships to go around, capitalizing on the brand new Strange New Worlds mechanic. This ability highlights the number of differently named lands you control, granting you powers accordingly, and builds on Edge of Eternities’ Station mechanic. Below is a sneak peek at some of the ships in the form of the set’s extremely cool Schematics cards.

The Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek set will have 81 Commons, 110 Uncommons, 80 Rares, and 25 Mythic Rare cards, as well as 10 Common Duel Lands and 10 Default Frame Basic Lands. A respectably sized set!
The Star Trek set will offer several pre-constructed decks, including four new Commander decks:
- Federation Fleet with a Picard Commander (Jeskai)
- Landing Party with a Spock Commander (Bant)
- Klingon Fury with a DS9-era Worf Commander (Mardu)
- We Are the Borg captained by the Borg Queen herself (Esper)
With The Hobbit having a big fat zero for pre-cons, and Reality Fracture having only one, it’s nice to see a wider selection of Commander decks available at launch. From what we’ve seen so far, the Star Trek set seems pretty overpowered, and its Commander cards are especially not to be trifled with.

The gang is all here, with every Star Trek iteration making an appearance in this set, though admittedly to varying degrees. You’ll find plenty of representation for Star Trek: TOS and Star Trek: Next Generation. From what we’ve seen so far, those will be the two most dominant Treks in the set. That being said, you can find DS9, Discovery, and Enterprise cards scattered throughout. Voyager hasn’t been shown off much yet, but I have a sneaking feeling we’ll at least get a “Warp 10” card upon release…
If you’re looking to pick up any of the many packs, bundles, and decks available for pre-order, here’s how much it’ll set you back in USD:
- Play Boosters: $6.99
- Collector Boosters: $37.99
- Commander Decks: $75
- Collector’s Edition Commander Decks: $159.99
- Basic Bundle: $69.99
- Beam Me Up Bundle: $99.99.
- Draft Night Bundle: $119.99
- Scene Boxes: $41.99
The Scene Boxes are depictions of memorable Star Trek moments personally selected by Booster Fun artists, with the final artwork spanning multiple cards. This set has so much to offer, and we haven’t even seen it all yet. I don’t know about y’all, but I can’t wait to celebrate sixty years of Star Trek by seeking out some new (cardboard) life on November 13th.
