Massachusetts Men Accused of Orchestrating $12,200,000 U.S. Treasury Check Fraud Scheme Daily Hodl Agent | usagoldmines.com

Federal prosecutors are charging four Massachusetts men in a scheme that allegedly stole more than $12.2 million in U.S. Treasury checks.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts says David Obeng, 24, of Dedham, Lynley Joseph, 26, of Brockton, Lindsley Georges, 33, of Everett, and Shaunsayh Addo, 33, of Leominster each face bank fraud conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy counts.

Prosecutors allege the group altered Treasury checks meant for legitimate payees so the funds went to shell companies they controlled, then deposited the checks at banks and credit unions around Boston between 2023 and 2026.

Authorities say the defendants later moved the money through cashier’s checks, bought about $310,000 in luxury watches, and secured a $425,000 real estate loan backed by Nantucket property.

Georges already had a federal money laundering conviction from 2022 and was on supervised release when the new scheme allegedly unfolded.

Obeng faces additional charges in a separate case that prosecutors say used fake bank texts and calls to drain more than $1 million from customer accounts.

Nine other people were charged earlier in related cases tied to the same stolen Treasury checks.

A bank fraud conspiracy conviction can bring up to 30 years in prison.
