Robot vacuum cleaners with a slim design have (so far) been largely limited to expensive flagship models. The Roborock Qrevo Edge 2 brings this design to a much more affordable price.
That said, Roborock still includes key convenience features like the extendable side brush, lifting mop pads, and a mostly self-cleaning dock. Our test shows just how the savings in chassis design, obstacle detection, and cleaning solution dispensing affect everyday use, as well as the advantages of the low profile design.

Roborock Qrevo Edge 2: Design and build quality
The robot measures 13.9 × 13.9 × 3.1 inches and weighs 9.9 pounds. Its low profile is particularly noteworthy. It matches the dimensions of Roborock’s top-of-the-line model, the Saros 20 Sonic, exactly and is significantly lower than several competitors: The DJI Romo P and Ecovacs Deebot X12 OmniCyclone are around 3.9 inches high, the Mova Z70 Ultra Roller Complete measures 3.8 inches with the sensor tower retracted, and the Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow stands at 4.7 inches.

This is made possible by RetractSense. The laser tower can be retracted into the body. A dToF sensor checks the available clearance height in advance. The tower retracts when approaching low furniture. To navigate underneath the furniture, the robot then uses, among other things, a vision module with a 100-degree field of view. Unlike the Saros 20 Sonic, the Qrevo Edge 2 does not have an adjustable chassis.

At 13.4 inches wide, the station is comparatively slim, but at 20.5 inches high, it requires sufficient headroom. It is significantly narrower than the 17.3-inch-wide Saros station. At the top are two easily accessible tanks: one on the right holding 135 fluid ounces of fresh water and one on the left holding 118 fluid ounces of dirty water. Behind the front flap is the dust bag, which has a capacity of 91 fluid ounces.

The wash basin in the base can be completely removed and rinsed out. This makes cleaning easier, as hair and lint tend to accumulate there over time.
The build quality is in keeping with Roborock’s usual high standards. The flaps close flush, and there are very few gaps where dust can accumulate. The total weight of the robot and docking station is 28 pounds.
Roborock Qrevo Edge 2: Specifications
Roborock specifies a maximum of 25,000 pascals for the HyperForce suction system. To put this into perspective, the manufacturer quotes 36,000 Pa for the Saros 20 Sonic. Meanwhile, the DJI Romo P also achieves 25,000 Pa and the Qrevo Curv 2 Flow reaches 20,000 Pa. Ecovacs does not specify a value in pascals for the Deebot X12 OmniCyclone, instead quoting an airflow of 5.8 cubic feet per second.
The Pascal figure alone says little about real-world performance. On hard floors and carpets, the brush design, brush contact, and airflow also influence the result.
Mopping is carried out using two rotating pads at 200 rpm and eight newtons of contact pressure. According to the manufacturer, the DJI Romo P’s pads apply five newtons of pressure to the floor, while the Saros 20 Sonic’s vibrating mop applies 14 newtons.
The mop roller on the Qrevo Curv 2 Flow operates at 15 newtons, while the Mova Z70 operates at 18 newtons at 800 rpm. The manufacturers’ specifications for contact pressure show significant differences; however, due to the different mopping systems, these cannot be directly translated into cleaning performance.

For edge cleaning, Roborock combines the extendable FlexiArm Arc side brush with a swiveling mop module. This allows the robot to get closer to skirting boards and into corners.
The split DuoDivide main brush helps prevent hair from becoming tangled. It guides hair towards the suction opening rather than allowing it to wrap around a continuous brush roller. Under the testing conditions, Roborock claims a zero percent tangling rate for hair up to 15.7 inches in length. The Omnidrehrad is also designed to make hair less likely to wrap round the axle.

Reactive AI combines structured light with an RGB camera. According to Roborock, the system recognizes more than 280 types of objects. The Saros 20 Sonic’s side-facing VertiBeam light is missing, as is the StarSight solid-state LiDAR.
DirTect technology distinguishes between dry and wet dirt. When encountering dust, the robot increases its suction power and does not mop. When encountering wet patches, it lifts the main brush. This ensures that less wet dirt gets into the brush.
The battery has a capacity of 5,200 mAh and can be charged in less than four hours. Roborock states a runtime of up to 295 minutes in quiet mode. The Saros 20 Sonic and its sister model, the Qrevo Edge 2 Pro, each have a battery capacity of 6,400 mAh.
The robot’s water tank holds just 2.3 fluid ounces. On larger mopping areas, this may require additional trips back to the station to refill, which extends the cleaning time.
The dock washes the mops with water up to 175 F, dries them with air at 131 F, and largely cleans the wash basin itself. A dirt sensor can trigger additional wash cycles if necessary. According to the manufacturer, the dust bag should last up to 65 days without needing to be replaced under typical use.

There is no separate tank for cleaning solution. Approved cleaning additives must be added manually to the fresh water. The Saros 20 Sonic dispenses cleaning solution automatically. The Qrevo Edge 2 Pro also has a dedicated compartment for this purpose.
When purchasing, you should pay close attention to the model name. Within the Qrevo range, Roborock often sells model variants with very similar-sounding names (such as Edge, Edge Pro, Curv or Slim) simultaneously, some of which differ only by a single suffix in the name. The technical specifications – such as suction power, battery capacity, or cleaning solution tank – can sometimes differ significantly.
The Qrevo Edge 2 supports Matter and can be integrated into smart home systems from Amazon, Apple, and Google. The voice assistant Hello Rocky responds even without an internet connection.
Roborock Qrevo Edge 2: Setup
The process follows the familiar Roborock procedure. Once the docking station has been set up, the access ramp is locked into place and the fresh water tank is filled. After installing the app and scanning the QR code under the top cover, the Qrevo Edge 2 will then pair with your smartphone via Bluetooth and connect to the Wi-Fi. If necessary, the app installs a firmware update. Our test unit was running version V02.15.44.
The setup wizard guides you through the initial settings in detail. Here, you can set preferences for pets or carpets, configure Do Not Disturb mode, and enable map saving. For multi-story homes, multiple maps can be saved. The built-in voice assistant can also be activated. It responds to Hello Rocky and allows you to give basic cleaning commands without a smartphone.

Quick mapping then begins. The robot scans the rooms as it passes through them, rather than covering every area in full. In our testing area, which is just under 753 square feet, this was completed in less than five minutes. The app then automatically divides the map into rooms and suggests suitable room names.
It also marks recognized floor types on the map. Any errors can be corrected afterwards. Restricted zones, door thresholds, and furniture can also be added. Room names and boundaries can be adjusted later.
The Roborock app remains one of the system’s strengths. Despite the high level of customization, cleaning modes, room cleaning, and no-go zones can be found without a lengthy search. Water flow can be adjusted in stages and configured independently of the suction power. The robot automatically detects carpets. Several cleaning strategies are available for this. Depending on the setting, it lifts the mops, navigates around carpets, or cleans them separately.
The app offers a particularly wide range of options for carpets. The Qrevo Edge 2 can automatically return the mops to the docking station for carpet-only cleaning. If you set the robot to vacuum carpets first without the mops attached, you should monitor the first run and adjust the settings if necessary.
Roborock Qrevo Edge 2: Performance
Current robot vacuum cleaners differ significantly in terms of obstacle detection. In testing, Reactive AI usually recognized typical obstacles such as food bowls and dog toys lying around. Thin cables and very flat objects proved more challenging, however. Among the models we tested recently, the DJI Romo P, with its solid-state LiDAR and two fisheye cameras, delivered reliable obstacle detection.
More problematic is the Qrevo Edge 2’s threshold-crossing capability, which is limited to 0.8 inches. A 0.8-inch threshold remains a common specification for traditional robot vacuum cleaners and is sufficient for flat transition profiles. However, modern top-of-the-range models can now handle significantly higher thresholds.
The Qrevo Edge 2’s biggest strengths are its slim design and feature-packed cleaning station.
Thresholds in older buildings or thick carpet edges can become a problem. In practical use, the Saros 20 Sonic, with its AdaptiLift chassis, can negotiate individual thresholds of up to two inches, while the Mova Z70 claims 1.9 inches.
In our test, the Qrevo Edge 2 failed to negotiate a threshold just over 0.8 inches high between the bedroom and the hallway. Even manually entering the door threshold in the Roborock app failed to help. The robot then adjusted its approach angle and speed. Nevertheless, the edge remained insurmountable for the rigid chassis.

Compared with the most recent models in this price range that we have tested, this limited climbing ability stands out as a negative point. For homes with higher thresholds, it’s a clear disadvantage.
By contrast, the robot reliably recognized the runners on our cantilever chairs in the kitchen as obstacles. It stopped in front of the flat metal runners and navigated around them without getting stuck.
The Qrevo Edge 2 lacks the Saros 20 Sonic’s side-facing VertiBeam light, which is designed to better detect low and narrow obstacles along walls. Thin cables should be removed before cleaning, especially those near walls.
The pet functions proved useful in everyday use. If the robot approaches a pet, it stops the main brush and changes direction. It returns to blocked areas later.
The design plays an important role in mopping performance. The two rotating pads, each with a force of eight newtons, pick up loosened dirt and are rinsed at the docking station at set intervals.

In contrast, roller systems like the one on the Mova Z70 continuously rinse the roller with fresh water during cleaning. The Z70 uses twelve nozzles for this purpose and drains away dirty water immediately. In our test, this principle proved particularly effective against dried-on stains.
The Qrevo Edge 2 operates on a different mopping principle. It achieves good results during routine cleaning. For dried-on residues, several passes or a higher water flow rate are required. On large surfaces, cleaning performance may diminish between two wash cycles as dirt gradually accumulates on the pads.
The station’s dirt monitoring system can trigger additional mop wash cycles if necessary. This extends the cleaning time, but keeps the pads cleaner. The mop pads also absorb grease well and dry quickly after cleaning.
The swiveling mop has an advantage around edges. With roller systems without a side extension, a wider uncleaned area can remain in tight corners or around furniture legs. The Qrevo Edge 2’s extendable mop reduces this gap and works close to the skirting board. In homes with lots of nooks and crannies, the good edge coverage is a distinct advantage of the Qrevo Edge 2.

The robot lifts the mops off the floor when cleaning carpets. The system handles short-pile carpets easily. For high-pile carpets or those with long fringes, it is advisable to set up a no-go zone.
In day-to-day use, the main tasks involve topping up the fresh water and emptying the dirty water tank. Occasionally, the wash basin and brushes also need cleaning, and the filters and sensors need checking.
There is no dirty water tank inside the robot itself, and some of the loosened dirt remains in the pads until the next wash.
Roborock Qrevo Edge 2: Conclusion
The Qrevo Edge 2’s biggest strengths are its slim design and feature-packed cleaning station.
Compared to the Saros 20 Sonic, it lacks the retractable chassis and VertiBeam. The the battery capacity is around 1,200 mAh smaller. The Edge 2 also does not have a separate cleaning solution tank. The cost savings relate primarily to the chassis, navigation, battery, and cleaning solution dispensing. For the mopping system, Roborock continues to rely on rotating pads rather than a roller.
There are two key points to consider before purchasing. The maximum threshold height of 0.8 inches is on a par with many traditional robot vacuum cleaners. In homes with high door thresholds, the robot may reach its limits. With dried-on coffee and ketchup stains, the pads require more passes than the best roller systems.
For homes with low furniture and lots of edges, the Qrevo Edge 2 is appealing, especially at its current price. In households with pet hair, the split main brush is an advantage. For large hard floors with dried-on kitchen grime, roller models such as the Qrevo Curv 2 Flow or Mova Z70 Ultra Roller Complete offer better performance. With high thresholds, a model with a lift mechanism is a must-have.
