I’ve seen every single The Hunger Games movie trailer ever made, and this one for Sunrise on the Reaping is the best-looking one yet. And I mean that both aesthetically and in terms of the story itself. This tale takes place a quarter century before Katniss Everdeen entered the arena. But the seeds for her revolution began when her future mentor Haymitch was named as one of District 12’s tributes for the 50th Annual Hunger Games. That infamous event, known as the Second Quarter Quell, featured twice as many tributes as any competition before or after. It’s also where Snow’s downfall began. The beauty, suspense, and tragedy we feel in this trailer has us feeling like Sunrise on the Reaping might be the best Hunger Games movie to date.

In addition to the trailer, Lionsgate shares the following synopsis for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping:
Set in the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, the story follows Haymitch (Joseph Zada) into the arena, where he forms an unlikely alliance with fellow tribute Maysilee Donner (Mckenna Grace) and joins a coalition determined to challenge the Capitol’s control under President Snow (Ralph Fiennes). As the competition unfolds, Haymitch risks everything to take down the Games from within the arena — setting in motion the rebellion that will change Panem forever.
The film comes from franchise stalwart director Francis Lawrence. It also stars Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. So, you know, not the worst cast.
