Dolly Parton was laid to rest alongside her husband Carl Dean after a private ceremony. Of course, this was done according to her wishes and desire to give her family and friends time to mourn outside of the public eye. But, Dolly Parton’s estate does have a plan for her millions of fans with DollyFest, a two day country music festival in Nashville and London.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the festival in Nashville was going to happen back in January around the music legend’s 80th birthday. Now there’s an additional event that will take place in London, although the dates for that are not yet set in stone for either one. These DollyFest events to celebrate Parton’s life will be the only form of a public memorial that fans will get.
Danny Nozell, Dolly’s longtime business partner and founder/CEO of CTK Enterprises, said that she would not have wanted a solemn funeral. He went on to explain why this felt like the right route for celebrating Dolly.
“We are not discouraging people from celebrating Dolly in the ways they choose,” he said. “However, as far as a traditional memorial goes, that is not something Dolly wanted. So, instead, it feels more appropriate for us to take a beat, let all the tributes that immediately make sense occur naturally, and then, see through this festival-style concept that was truly dreamed up by Dolly. This is something that is authentic to her, something that feels right to me, and something that artists and fans around the world can participate in, while also giving everyone time to grieve, and giving everyone time to plan.”
It sounds like we need to get to Nashville sometime soon to honor Dolly Parton’s life at DollyFest.
