DUNE: PART THREE Footage: Our CinemaCon Complete Breakdown Tai Gooden | usagoldmines.com

Dune: Part Three will deal with the fallout of Paul Atreides rise to power this December. It will be quite an epic weekend at theaters, with Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday giving us a “Dunesday” double feature. Of course, Warner Bros. and Legendary couldn’t wait to give CinemaCon attendees a taste of all the action in Dune: Part Three, and we have your detailed breakdown right here. It was quite the way to close out Warner Bros. panel, compete with Fremen on stage. People are even raised on wires in the air before Denis Villeneuve comes out to reveal this look at the film.

The director said he didn’t want to walk in his own footsteps, calling Dune: Part Three an intense thriller. A few cast members, including Jason Moma, Zendaya, and Timothee Chalamet all come out for a chat.

Now, let’s get into that new footage. We quickly find ourselves in the midst of a battle, which is not one that’s seen in the Dune Messiah novel. We think it could be one of the battles mentioned in the novel, like the Battle of Enfeil. That was led by Farok but it could be one of the battles mentioned, like the Battle of Enfeil, which was led by Farok, the Fremen we see leading the chant before the battle. The armada of ships carrying the Fremen down to the surface look like the Pain Box that Paul put his hand in back in Dune.

In an interesting note, some of the newer Fremen soldiers are shocked to hear that on this planet, water falls from the sky. That’s unimaginable to most Fremen who have only known their desert planet of Arrakis. The Fremen carry a case into battle, which we previously saw in the Dune: Part Three teaser trailer a few weeks ago. But in this clip, it looks like it’s an important piece of equipment for the battle. It is most likely a Stone Burner, an explosive weapon of mass destruction, and this could foreshadow the use of a Stone Burner in a pivotal scene in the film.

Unlike the ferocity we saw from the Fremen in the previous films, this time they are deeply out of their element. They will probably win this battle, but it will leave them exhausted and further disillusioned by Paul’s war. We even see that Stilgar has grey in his beard, suggesting that this battle has been going on for a while. Villeneuve confirms this and says that the film takes place 17 years after Part Two. This will cause a breaking point and a rise against Paul.

Speaking of him, he is totally out of control. His rule is ruthless and there’s something that’s clouding his visions. We immediately get a shot of a floating sarcophagus pod and see Robert Pattinson as Scytale, and we are pretty sure that pod contains Edric. This person is a Spacing Guild Navigator who is part of the conspiracy plot against Paul. In the book, Edric serves as a way to cloud Paul’s visions around the conspirators.

We hear Chani’s voice asking Paul “what does it feels like to be human.” But when we see her, she doesn’t look right. Her pupils are really big, suggesting that Scytale has shapeshifted into her to mess with Paul. The real Chani is out in the desert appearing to hunt down a sandworm. She also encounters a ship that has an insect-like appearance, almost like a scarab beetle. It could be at Tleilaxu ship. (The Tleilaxu are the faction of humans who created Facedancers like Scytale.) This scarab shape also looks similar to the emblem on Hayt/Duncan’s back when we see him draw his swords later.

We hear Paul yell “REMEMBER” as we see shots of Hayt/Duncan. Paul and Duncan stand in a red room with a skull preserved in a clear box. This is the Skull Tomb, or the Tomb of the Skull, where Paul preserved the remains of his dead father, Duke Leto. The footage ends with what looks like a battle on the back of a sandworm between Chani and Paul, with Duncan and other Fremen, and most likely Scytale. This could be part of the conspiracy plot to steal a sandworm off of Arrakis and makes us believe Chani is part of the rebellion against Paul. Chani’s character is expanded in the films, so we’ll just have to wait and see what direction Dune: Part Three takes her.
