Best Prices Today: Kensington SD5010T5 EQ Thunderbolt 5 Dock
Kensington’s Thunderbolt 5 Triple 4K Docking Station (SD5010T5, sometimes referred to as the SD5010T5 EQ) feels like a 13-in-1 Thunderbolt 5 dock for the PC, rather than the Mac, with multiple HDMI ports rather than a host of Thunderbolt upstream connections. Performance is stellar; stability, less so.
In 2026, a Thunderbolt 5 dock probably shouldn’t be your first choice, precisely because Thunderbolt 5 host support is limited to a few gaming laptops like the Asus ROG Strix, which served as my testbed for this review. Nevertheless, my list of the best Thunderbolt docks includes both Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 5 offerings, precisely because of the willingness of manufacturers to keep pricing in check. At about $300, Kensington’s dock is priced roughly in line with where I’d expect a TB5 dock to be.
A Thunderbolt 5 dock is designed for up to three 4K displays, at 144Hz apiece, up from the two 4K60 displays that Thunderbolt 4 supports. Alternatively, you can connect a pair of 6K displays, or one running at 8K resolution. Through last year, TB5 was more of a performance play, for gaming. At CES 2026, however, we saw mass-market 6K displays enter the market, adding a new productivity wrinkle.
Kensington Thunderbolt 5 Triple 4K Docking Station: Construction and ports
The dock’s design is straightforward, with a small but thorough instruction sheet and small icons on the dock itself which spell out the capabilities of most of the ports themselves. Case in point: On the front, underneath the power button, a small icon notes that the 10Gbps USB-C port charges at up to 30W, enough for most of the latest smartphones to fast-charge. The 10Gbps USB-C port next to it is a bit more vague, with a battery icon. It too provides power, but just 7.5W. The USB-A port to the right also provides 10Gbps of throughput, but just 4.5W, which is normal.
This dock includes what Kensington calls KonstantCharge, which will keep the peripheral ports active and charging even when there’s no laptop connected. That function worked as advertised.

There are also two Thunderbolt ports on the rear of the dock. The first, which serves as an additional display port, only supplies 15W, somewhat surprisingly low for a Thunderbolt 5 port. Next to it are a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports. Above are a pair of 5Gbps USB-A ports, a 2.5Gbps Ethernet connection, and a pair of Kensington locking ports, nano and standard.
I rarely complain about the port spacing on a powered desktop dock, but here I feel that the spacing between the two Thunderbolt ports on the rear of the dock — the connection to the laptop, and then the additional Thunderbolt 5 connection — are too close together. It’s not impossible to manage, but with those and the Ethernet cable in close proximity, inserting and withdrawing a cable has to be fiddled with. A wider, rectangular dock usually doesn’t have this problem.
The second Thunderbolt 5 port supplies 140W to the attached laptop. That’s a problem — and will always be a problem, since gaming laptops with Thunderbolt 5 connections generally require 200W or so under load, including gaming. On the other hand, while my test laptop did complain of a “slow charger,” the laptop only lost about 4 percent of its battery while connected over the course of an afternoon’s worth of work. Put another way, the power that most TB5 docks provide will be insufficient for the Windows laptops which can connect to them, but not dramatically so.
Dock makers have told me that placing wireless charging into the top of the dock can cause crosstalk and noise that can interfere with signaling. Still, there’s a lot of unused surface space, which mounting the dock can get around. Otherwise, the top of the dock became what I would call hot to the touch. There’s no active cooling, so that surface area is used to dissipate heat.

I tend to favor vertical docks, because they can provide additional space savings on a crowded desk. However, Kensington’s 13-in-1 TB5 aluminum dock is incredibly sturdy and secure, with a rubberized surface that covers the entirety of the underside and prevents it from being moved or dragged by the weight of the attached cables. It can even be mounted via a pair of screw holes on the bottom, too.

Kensington Thunderbolt 5 Triple 4K Docking Station: Performance
I usually test docks over a period of several days, using our methodology for testing Thunderbolt docks, to assess how stable they are. Does the dock light up the displays when it comes back from sleep? Are there issues with it disconnecting? My test laptop produced a BSOD on one occasion following a graphical glitch on one display when it resumed from sleep, which may have been due to the laptop rather than the docking station itself. After a reboot, one of the displays failed to light up until after I reconnected it.
My stability testing varied dramatically. On my Thunderbolt 5 test bed, the dock was extremely stable. On a laptop with Thunderbolt 4 ports, however, I noticed that one of two displays didn’t resume after bringing the laptop back from sleep. A reboot solved this.
More annoyingly, one of the displays would flip off for a second or two, every few minutes. I tried six different Thunderbolt 4 laptops; three demonstrated this problem, while the other three did not. Otherwise, two displays lit up at 4K/144Hz, as they should, and the dock powered a third display that I connected with a USB-C cable.
(It’s worth noting that the Kensington Dockworks software can be downloaded and installed, though it’s more for management rather than stability — quicker switching from Ethernet to Wi-Fi if the connection shifts, for example.)
In my tests using a USB voltage meter, I found that the dock supplied 26W out of the front charging port, versus the rated 30W, but 8.1W out of the second USB-C port, versus the rated 7.5W. The other front USB-A port delivered 2.4W.

As a Thunderbolt 5 dock, however, paired with capable hardware, this dock simply flies. As per my testing methodology mentioned above, I stream a 4K/60Hz video and note any frame drops. There were none! (I usually see a few frames drop.) Ditto for two displays.
I then connect a Thunderbolt 5-capable external SSD to the dock and run PCMark’s external storage drive test. The only odd thing I noticed here is that the drive wouldn’t function on either of the two front-facing 10Gbps ports. It should have, just at slower speeds. On the rear Thunderbolt 5 port, it performed normally.
Well, not totally normally. Using PCMark and the TB5 SSD, the dock achieved 444 megabytes per second, sneaking past the Plugable TBT-UD3 (432MB/s) as the fastest dock in that particular test. Running in the background while I was streaming the 4K video reduced the performance slightly to 439MB/s.
My next test is to copy a folder full of multimedia files from the drive, through the dock, and on to my PC’s desktop. Last year’s Sonnet Echo 13 holds the crown at 13.9 seconds to complete the task. This took a few seconds longer, at 18.7 seconds, a 30 percent difference. I can remember the days when I would get a cup of coffee while my PC booted; five seconds or so isn’t a huge difference, but it is significant. While streaming and copying, the process took 20.2 seconds.
Should you buy the Thunderbolt 5 Triple 4K Docking Station?
Great performance, iffy stability — at least on my tests of Thunderbolt 4 hardware.
I’m always a fan of display ports, as it means that you won’t need to buy adapter cables. That’s a not-so-hidden gotcha of docks like the Plugable TBT-UD3, which simply includes Thunderbolt ports instead. Tack on a couple of cables to the Plugable’s $250 price, and you’re inside the $300 price of the Kensington SD5010T5.
I’m going to have to do a bit of thinking on whether I include this dock among my recommended best picks for Thunderbolt docking stations, which already include some Kensington docks. Kensington’s Thunderbolt 5 Triple 4K Docking Station is a solid dock if you already own a Thunderbolt 5 laptop; otherwise, the possible stability issues on a Thunderbolt 4 laptop might prove annoying.
