Disney+ made sense as the digital home for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s optimistic smash musical Hamilton. The Mouse House would not be exactly the right fit for Cole Escola’s hit Broadway play Oh, Mary! to make its way to streaming. But HBO sure is, and that’s exactly where it’s heading. A live capture of Oh, Mary!, starring its creator Cole Escola, will soon release on HBO and stream on HBO Max. A recording of the original cast is coming to the premium network, and Oh, Mary!‘s first HBO promo features a warm welcome from the stars of Sex and the City.
We hope they get a chance to hang out. Carrie and Mary have a lot in common. Especially since Mr. Big died….
Oh, Mary! Will Stream on HBO Max in 2027
Oh, Mary! is the latest stage show making its way to screens without ever leaving the theater. In 2027, HBO (and then HBO Max) will premiere a special recording of Oh, Mary! done during the play’s July 28, 2026 performance at the Trafalgar Theatre in London’s West End. It features the original cast headlined by Tony-winner and writer Cole Escola. They play Mary Todd Lincoln. Giles Terera stars as Mary’s Husband, Bianca Leigh plays Mary’s Chaperone, Tony Macht is Mary’s Husband’s Assistant, and Michael Urie rounds out the cast as Mary’s Teacher. Tony winner Sam Pinkleton directed both the stage show and the special.

More About Oh, Mary!
For those unfamiliar with the play, it first opened off Broadway in January 2024. It then moved to Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre in July, where it became a record-breaking hit. It has also seen a litany of stars take over the lead role from Escola. Here’s the play’s official synopsis from HBO.
Oh, Mary! is a dark comedy about a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Unrequited yearning, alcoholism, and suppressed desires abound in this 80-minute, one-act play that finally examines the forgotten life and dreams of Mrs. Lincoln, through the lens of an idiot (playwright Cole Escola).
Something tells us the only thing that could have stopped Oh, Mary! would have been putting it on the wrong digital streamer.
