The cast of Marvel Studios’ all-new, all-different X-Men continues to grow. Although much of the main cast was officially revealed at Disney’s recent D23 Expo by Kevin Feige, he assured fans that more cast members were still waiting to be announced. Now, via The Hollywood Reporter, we have our first one. It seems as if Asa Germann, who recently starred in Gen V and Scream 7, will portray Warren Worthington III, a.k.a. Angel. Apparently, Germann tested for the role of Cyclops, which he lost to Kit Connor. But director Jake Schreier must have liked what he saw, and offered him another key role. On Gen V, Germann played a student at Godolkin University. Now, he’ll play a different student at another school for superpowered teens, Xavier’s School.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the winged mutant Angel was a founding member of the team, back in 1963’s X-Men #1. The son of a wealthy industrialist, Warren Worthington was heir to a vast fortune. But he had to hide his wings from the world at large. In the early X-Men years, he was the main rival for Jean Grey’s affections. In the end, of course, Scott Summers was who truly had her heart. Later in the ’80s, the character received a surge of popularity when the ancient mutant Apocalypse amputated his wings, regrowing them as razor-sharp metal ones. He became Apocalypse’s Horseman of Death. Eventually breaking free from Apocalypse’s control, he took on the name Archangel.

The addition of Angel to the team suggests that certain rumors are true, and all five original X-Men will be part of the MCU team roster. This is something the Fox films never did. This also indicates we have at least two more big casting announcements left for X-Men, Beast and Iceman. So what does that mean for characters we know are in the film, like Storm and Rogue? We could see a scenario where there’s a rival school run by Emma Frost, with its own mutant students. And these students could switch sides and join the X-Men by the film’s end. We’ll have to see how it all plays out, but expect more iconic X-Men cast very soon.
