Pixel 11 Pro in Matte Black is Hot, Also Super Slippery Kellen | usagoldmines.com

With each new Pixel release, Google always refreshes at least a couple of the colors that it’ll present on phones. For the Pixel 11 Pro, we have been introduced to Canyon, Olive, and Fog, as the new entries. For the Pixel 10 Pro, we got Moonstone and Jade.

Once we can buy the new devices, it’s always so hard to not choose from whatever is new. Moonstone was gorgeous on the Pixel 10 Pro, and both Canyon and Olive look exceptional on the Pixel 11 Pro. However, Google finally made a big change to the standard Obsidian (black) option that they’ve made available for so many years.

One of the design decisions we’ve never loved that Google has made with all of its “Pro” devices is the choice for a polished frame finish over a matte finish. I believe this goes all of the way back to the Pixel 6 Pro, where we had a polished finish, yet non-Pro phones often end up with matte or satin finishes.

For the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL in Obsidian, Google is finally giving us a matte finish. Because of that choice, I actually skipped on the new colors for my personal Pixel 11 Pro unit and went Obsidian. I don’t know if there is some sort of darkness in my life at the moment or re-watching several Batman movies last week did something to me, but going all-black and not having the shiny, fingerprinty-reflective coating for the first time was a major draw.

I’ve spent the past 5 days now with the Obsidian Pixel 11 Pro with the matte black finish and can confirm that it is a beauty, assuming you enjoy a muted color experience on your phone. It’s elegant, hasn’t found a fingerprint, and has met my darkness quest.

Unfortunately, I do have to report that it is beyond slippery – like, noticeably slippery for anyone I have let hold it.

Pixel 11 Pro Obsidian - Matte Black

Shortly after posting our initial impressions of the Pixel 11 Pro, I let a friend hold the Pixel 11 Pro XL in Olive I have. It has the polished metal frame. They noted almost immediately it was enjoyable to hold because it had a tackiness to the frame that made it non-slippery and comfortable in the hand. I agreed with them and mentioned it was the same on the Pixel 11 Pro in Canyon, which also has the polished frame.

From the minute I pulled the Pixel 11 Pro in Obsidian out of the box, I started worrying about dropping it. Not that it almost slipped out of my hand, but it was slippery enough that I started wondering if I needed a case. Over the weekend, my wife and son also had their own moments with it and both mentioned that it was tough to hold onto and very slippery.

So, for those trying to decide which color of Pixel 11 Pro to buy, maybe this will help. The new matte black Obsidian on the Pixel 11 Pro is quite nice, it’s just super slippery without a case. The other colors do not suffer from the slickness.

Case guy – I know, you’ll be putting a case on it and don’t care and think this is a waste of time. Some of us don’t like cases.

Is this still the best remaining Pixel 11 Pro deal? Probably.
